Most even include fans to blow additional air through your laptop, which can aid in cooling the internals and chassis. Throwing your laptop onto a pillow or blanket can smother its air intakes and cause it to overheat quickly, but a laptop cooling pad prevents this. Not sure if this helps. In general, laptop cooling pads help ensure your device gets better airflow. Since it a newer model with AMD it's hard to find information on the docking solution. So I bought a display port cable and I have been running it like that but whenever I am on a Google Meet my computer will shut down and I will need to reboot.not sure if it is related to the dock solution or not. Either I have a defective dock, or it doesn't work due to my choice to purchase the AMD version without the thunderbolt support. Lenovo recommends this dock but I really don't believe the documentation since it does say it supports HDMI with the AMD laptop. ![]() If I plug it in using Display Port it comes right on. When I look at the connected monitors in Windows it does sense the connected HDMI monitor, but I never get a picture. I can't get the HDMI output to work for me at all. It does charge the laptop and I live the idea of having the power button on the dock, which does work. I purchased the Ultra dock Type 40AJ and I am having issues. I also have a p14s AMD and have been trying to wrangle the whole docking station thing. Thanks all for the insightful help and comments!ĭelivery is still months out so ive got plenty of time to make a decision. Ive read the wiki here on docking stations and it helped immensely, but im still a bit confused on the different usb 3.0/c/tb3 protocols, especially since lenovo indicates support for the p14s. I also would like for the dock to charge my laptop while it is hooked up, which both of these seem to be able to do. The Docking Station i have now is sufficient for my use and should work across both laptops but displaylink has its quirks and hiccups sometimes and i would like to upgrade. I understand that the ultra docking station could be a bit more seamless as opposed to the Thunderbolt dock, however, given that question 1 is true, is there really any significant benefit that the ultra docking station would provide or is the thunderbolt cross compatibility just a better option? I really just need the ability to run multiple monitors and have a few i/o options for ethernet/usb It seems that the P14s supports Display Port 1.4 Is this accurate and what protocol would it use? I would like to get away from displaylink if there is a better option. Lenovo indicates that the Thunderbolt 3 dock Gen 2 is compatible with the p14s AMD i ordered despite the fact that the p14s amd doesnt support thunderbolt 3. Thus the Ultra docking station may not be what i need and as always, i have a few questions. Recently my SO informed me that, using her Yoga c740, she would like to continue having the ability to use my workstation for herself when appropriate. Currently they are running off of a wavlink branded displaylink usb-c non thunderbolt non PD dock hooked up to my ideapad. Ive had the intention of buying the thinkpad ultra docking station to accompany it in my workstation which currently consists of 2 1080p monitors. I know when i selected this laptop, that it would not have thunderbolt 3, at the time i happily made that concession as it featured the mechanical side docking connector. I ordered a cto p14s (amd) a few weeks ago to use in my ME curriculum and am waiting on its very slow arrival from the factory. It has been extremely helpful in my search for my first thinkpad. Hello, Firstly i would like to thank all of you on this sub for the endless knowledge and resources.
